A friend and I have been talking about making a game for years. We've had different ideas as to what we could do, and tried pairing up with a number of different developers to make it happen. Always the same story - we do a bunch of work and the thing never gets built. Well, we finally decided to try to do the entire thing ourselves. More of a "let's just see if we can do this" kind of thing. So we jumped in, learned C# and finally turned out this trivia game based on the TV show The Big Bang Theory. <-- Nah, we don't make much off of it, but we did it. It's in the app store. -->
The basic premise of the game is that you choose from a number of categories, and inside each one, you get 12 quesions that are multiple choice. You have 30 seconds to choose from 4 answers.
There are a number of power-ups that let you skip questions, make them worth bonus money, remove some answers etc. Also, we added a bunch of achievements that are integrated into GameCenter on iOS, lots of cards you can unlock and even a bonus wheel you can spin for extra points.
We really got an in-depth understanding of collaboarting on an active project like this from so many different angles, it's rediculous. We were both designers, developers, project managers, product managers, marketers, business management - you name it.
